Get to know me

Blogger in Lisbon, Portugal

Hi! You've found my blog, what a lucky day for you! :)

I'm Makayla Collier, and welcome to my online journal! Travel and Espresso is a space I created to talk about my adventures, coffee shop findings, personal thoughts on life, and really anything else that comes to mind. A dumping ground for all my thoughts because I've heard that's supposed to help support your mental health (which we love). This is a very unprofessional space so if you were looking for more grammatically correct, formal information you've come to the wrong place. But if you want fun stories, boring stories, cool photos, must visit coffee shops, & travel information you've found it!

To be completely honest with you all, this journey literally started overnight. One moment, I felt confused & lost with no idea what I truly wanted for my future (which is apparently normal in your 20's lol) and the next, I had an idea that felt almost surreal. My passion for coffee has been a part of me since college, where I constantly shared my dream of owning a coffee shop with all of my friends. I was even known on campus for my love of coffee and would get asked frequently by students what types of coffee they should order at the different cafes around Goshen, Indiana. While I didn’t open a coffee shop right after graduation, I did get a job managing a local coffee shop in my hometown. Working in a local coffee shop opened doors to lifelong friendships, valuable experiences, and a deeper understanding of the coffee industry and small business. However, the time has come for a change, because you don't grow in familiarity and comfort. I've decided to take a leap and solo travel the world using my barista skills. Coffee, new cultures, and adventures; what could be better?

I feel so lucky to have found my passion in life and I hope I can inspire you to search for yours. If we are willing to listen, I believe we all have a "knowing" of what our souls really want out of life. It can be difficult but following your knowing will create a much happier and purposeful life than listening to what society wants out of you. Welcome to the journey. :)

Question, comment, travel ideas, or coffee shop hangout invite. I'd love to hear from you.
